Our sweet Guinnea Girl, who came into our lives and grew into our hearts when MGJ was just a toddler died last night. She was nearly 11. She was bumped by a car, and went immediately. She was in good health for an animal her age and breed, and amazingly more puppy like in the last weeks than in the last year.
There is a terrible sense of agony and loss ...
and there are reminders of her everywhere ...
The still full food dish, her leash on the back porch, her notable absence when I look out the kitchen window thinking I'll see her looking back at me ...
We got the call just after the girls had fallen asleep and we made the agonizing decision to get them up. To let them see and feel the fullness of death, up close and extremely personal, in the hopes that it would help them grieve more fully. And, so they could say good bye.
It was a harsh reality.

They cried, and then after waking fully and with more clear minds, sweetly prepared their good byes. We took off her collar and tags (one from the US and one from China). They crouched over her on her bed and wept, and petted her, their tears dripping on her still warm body. We clipped some locks of her hair. We thought of things that we wanted to bury with her.
Then Mr Johnson prepared her grave under the budding magnolia tree. And he placed her, paws crossed (the dainty way she often kept them), and buried her.
We are so sad.
We loved you

I'm SO SO SO sorry! I know this pain, my Finnigan died last fall. The memories will become only god soon, but in the mean time lots of hugs are called for, all around.
What a sweet pup Guinnea was. And what sweet girls you were to her. She had a wonderful home and a wonderful life. We will miss her too. Love, Nani and Nana
Oh Jen, I'm so sorry! Hugs to you all.
Much love from us.

So sorry to hear about your loss. I still wake up every so often and think I can feel a dog sleeping by my feet. Also, Jake and Ariel's collars hung on the door knob to our basement for years as I couldn't part with them. Pets are a huge part of the family. I know you will all miss her.
I'm so sorry. I still miss Casey, and we had to put him to sleep after we returned from China last June. Prayers your way.
I'm sorry! I know how hard losing a beloved pet can be, especially around stressful times. I recently lost my dog, my pal who as a puppy helped me ease back into US life after time abroad. He was an improbable 15 years old, ancient by Labrador standards, but still his passing was incredibly hard.
Wow. This was just beautifully written. So sorry about your loss!
Thanks for all your thoughtful feedback! We appreciate your sweet words!
This is the first I had read about Guinnea since hearing about her passing. I felt terrible for all of you, but this made me cry all over again. ((((((hugs))))))
