When Pigs Fly

When my sister called @ 10 a.m. China time she asked if I was doing anything.

"Actually," I replied, "I'm still in my bathrobe."

Bea, too, would have still been in her jammies, if she had not already had a fashion show with the dressy-ups. Her present selection was the tired bride costume, complete with a headband veil. She was sitting criss cross applesauce under the easel having a chat with her stuffed animals. Her PJs, I noted, were cutely rolled up and shoved in the basket of her scooter in the playroom.

"I'm feeling kind of achy today... like I have arthritis... my second toe on my right foot even aches..." I continued lamely to my sister half a globe away.

"It's either arthritis or the flu... I'm pulling for the flu."
She laughed.

In the end, though, it was a good day. I chatted with my sister and she made me laugh, as my sisters have a way of doing! I took some Motrin. I managed to get myself dressed before morning became afternoon. Bea and I read book after book curled up in one of our Chinese leather armchairs that has metal legs and looks like something from The Jetsons. I took more Motrin. We ate lunch together at her little table, watered our new yellow mums in the back yard, and hung glow-in-the-dark flying pigs on the ceiling of the bedroom she shares with Eliza. (We saved half for Eliza to hang too.)

By the time Sean came home from work, I had rallied (or the Motrin finaly kicked in) and we had pizza night... assembling them ourselves (I cannot say made them ourselves as I used pre-made frozen crusts, canned sauce and imported, pre-grated, melamine-free, mozzarella cheese.)

The big girls had minimal homework, cooperated nicely and quizzed each other on their new set of Chinese characters, and we still had time for one new Hannah Montana episode off the DVR and the first chapter of The Horse and his Boy before bedtime.

When it was time to shut of the lights, Eliza and Bea were pleased with their glowing piggies, and Eliza sweetly asked me to cuddle a little longer. "I hardly saw you today," she said. It took very little convincing.

Pigs on the ceiling… Bathrobe ‘til noon… Pizza Party on a Tuesday night… It was a good day!
