Update on the Slow Boat
The slow boat from China arrived earlier that we expected, to US shores at least. It sat in a queue in Long Beach for nearly a week waiting for it's x-ray inspection. And then, lucky us, it was selected for a manual (physical) inspection. No further update on where we are at in that queue. Only some pondering on our part of when our forty-foot high cube will ride the rails to Chi-towne, be released from customs, and trucked out to The Bungalow; and why it was selected for physical inspection at all.

Yipes, don't like the "having a manual inspection" update. All of our "over and through the ocean" shipments were whisked through the ports without opening the containers. Thank heavens that was the case when we were literally bringing back multiple cases of wine from Europe. Interesting though, when ours came back in to the US from China, was 1st brought to KC, then went thru the custom rigors. There a few boxes were opened, each marked with a sticker that it was inspected. Nothing removed :-).
Security levels are at an all time high. Our representative at Allied explained that physical inspections are becoming more and more routine. WE were not allowed an air shipment at all because the US was not accepting air shipments of household goods after the Yemeni exploding printer terror threats.
Despite being 'routine' or the 'new normal' it makes me anxious. In China, we shipped out of Tianjin instead of QD to avoid what they expected to be certain physical inspection. It certainly keeps life interesting!!
