Dog Days

We flew home from Canada at the beginning of August, to the muggy oppression of Midwest's dog days of summer.

Mr Johnson flew directly on to Dallas, where the triple digit heat proved even more oppressive, leaving me & The Three to head back to the Bungalow (that was thousands of degrees after being shut tight for nearly two weeks). I cranked the a/c in my room, spread sleeping bags in the floor and we had a all girl slumber party.

The next morning we slept late, ate a meager breakfast of just expired yogurt, repacked an existing suitcase and headed West. (After a brief, but obligatory visit to the dentist.)

We've decided to grow our family by one member. We finalized arrangements while in Canada to add a Bernese Mountain Dog to the Johnson ranks.

After an overnight in Iowa City (another post soon on our adventures there), we swooped down curvy farm roads, passed Amish buggy carts and dark Amish raiments billowing on clothes lines to collect our pup.

We've called her 小山.
Xiao Shan
(small mountain)
(though, by all reports she won't be small for long!!)
