We recently celebrated International Day with Millie and Eliza @ Yew Chung International School. Except for the fact they had to board the bus on a Saturday morning @ 7:20, like a normal school day, they thought it was great. (It probably helped that Sean helped rally the red, white and blue spirit with tunes varying from The Boss' Born in the USA to Neil Diamond's Coming to America!!)
The idea of international day is of course to celebrate the diversity of culture with in our international community in China. They kids were all supposed to wear their national dress, which leads us to the question: How does an American dress?
When Millie and Eliza arrived @ school they were divided into multi-age teams with a country theme for each team. Eliza and her teammates sported togas for the Greek Team, while Millie's Team Mexico donned ponchos.
Not to be left out... Bea wore an Americana themed dress and we all enjoyed the international buffet when we joined the girls at school at lunchtime. We sampled Korean bulgogi, kim chi and noodles, German schnitzel, Lebanese hummus, and European breads and desserts. What did the American Johnson’s contribute, you may wonder? Brownies and Pepperidge Farm goldfish. Because … here’s another question? … What is “American food”?
